Definition of Enterprise Asset Management software
Asset-intensive organizations use Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software products to
address physical asset (industrial infrastructure, plant and equipment) support requirements. EAM is primarily a transactional workflow system designed for the purposes of management and execution of capital assets maintenance. To support this, they are a system designed to manage assets and work processes. They include maintenance history data, and a linear, or hierarchical, asset register. The software supports creating schedule maintenance tasks based on historical records, OEM vendor guidance or product manuals.
(An alternative term used for EAM is “computerized maintenance management system” [CMMS], but these are small-scale, single-site applications with less functionality around parts management and resource scheduling.)
